[32]***Super Mario Land was one of the launch games for the Gameboy in Japan. The gameplay is typical Mario-style with similar good controls as in the NES games. The game has enough variety in the levels, including two shooter levels, to keep you interested until the end. The only big flaw I saw is the really low difficulty level. If you have some experience with Mario from the NES you will find yourself playing through this game nearly instantly, and that although there is no possibillity to save your game.***Rescuing princesses isn't an easy business, but there's always one plumber ready for the job! This time it's Princess Daisy who needs the help of our plucky hero in Super Mario Land for the Game Boy. Set out on an adventure through four worlds of one player side-scrolling action that will have you hopping and stomping your way through dangerous caves, an ancient pyramid, and more! Along the way you can collect mushrooms, flowers, and stars to power you up. Hop into one of Mario's new vehicles, the Marine Pop or the Sky Pop, and fire away at incoming enemies. You'll also have to battle four vicious bosses, including the Sphinx and a massive Easter Island statue, as you search for hidden secrets that hold tons of coins.***The first Super Mario game not produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and it shows. The game is a bit different in feel from other games in the series. The enemies and stages are somewhat familiar, but also completely different from past experiences with Nintendo's favorite plumber. That being said, this also helps to distinguish it a bit. Side-scrolling shooter stages in both sea and air help to break up the gameplay and add something new. The graphics are primitive, but it's just as fun as you'd expect.

Master Karateka  Bandai (Tose)1989
[49]***Karateka was famous for its great character animations on 8-bit homecomputers and consoles and the Game Boy version called "Master Karateka" is no exception. But that is also the only positive aspect of this game. It's very repetitive and short. The option to distribute points into categories power, life and speed gives the game a bit depth, but that doesn't even help to become at least an average quality game.***A Japanese-only port of Karateka to the Game Boy. The graphics are larger and are generally better than the NES version (albeit in black and white). A VS. mode has been added, and you are now given the ability to customize your character's stats (power, life, and speed) at the beginning of the game. The new cut scenes look nice, too. Unfortunately, the hit detection actually seems worse than in previous versions.

[103]***So you think the life of a Marvel Super Hero is an easy one? Wrong! Take Spider-Man for example. While he's out protecting decent folk, a group of evil mutants kidnap his wife and threaten to "neutralize" her if their demands aren't met. Now Spidey's got to get her back before something terrible happens. It won't be easy though, because he's got the likes of Hobgoblin, Mysterio, Dr. Octopus and some of Marvel's other favorite "baddies" standing in his way.
So, if you feel up to the challenge and you're ready for some serious wall-crawling, make sure your web spinners are full and batteries fresh before you tackle this Game Boy adventure. We're sure you'll be playing this one for a long, long time.***

[29]***
[27]***An expansion and reinvention of the Nintendo classic! Donkey Kong for the Game Boy starts the player in familiar territory as Mario travels through the four original arcade stages. Once those are over, it's a whole new game! Aside from the classic arcade action of the original, Mario must now do a little puzzle-solving in his quest to save Pauline. In each level, he must get the key at one part of the stage into the locked door at another in order to follow his primate foe, but this is a lot harder than it sounds; Mario has to build platforms, unlock gates, dodge enemies, and more to get from point A to point B. Luckily, this time around, he has a few new tricks, including a backflip to avoid danger, a handstand to block falling barrels and flip him into a high jump, and the ability to toss objects around. The classic hammer is back to help him clear his way, too! Collect Pauline's hat, purse, and parasol to reach a bonus stage and earn some more lives. A huge number of stages will keep players busy for quite some time, but don't worry; there's a save feature now too! If you're a Game Boy owner and you like platforming and/or puzzle games, you have no excuse not to own this.
